ADL Network
The ADL Network includes: ADL Co-Laboratory (Alexandria, Virginia), ADL Technology Center (Johnstown, Pennsylvania), Joint ADL Co-Laboratory (Orlando, Florida), the Academic ADL Co-Laboratory (Madison, Wisconsin), the Workforce ADL Co-Laboratory (Memphis, Tennessee), and Partnership Labs in the United Kingdom and Canada.
ADL Co-Laboratory
The Department of Defense established the ADL Co-Laboratory in 1999 at the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) to foster the collaborative research, development, and assessment of the common tools, standards, content, and guidelines for the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative. The ADL Co-Lab operates to stimulate development of technologies that enhance learning and performance across the DoD and other Federal agencies. The ADL Co-Lab Hub in Alexandria serves as the Initiative's central organization for guiding, coordinating and integrating the operations of the ADL Network and operates under the direction of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
Joint Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory
The Joint ADL Co-Lab integrates instruction and technology to meet the military's training requirements. It promotes the implementation of ADL through research, development and consulting services for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Joint ADL Co-Lab also develops guidelines, tools, sample methodologies and strategies for implementing ADL in a military environment. Primary research areas include advanced SCORM functionality, instructional effectiveness, repositories, game-based learning and simulation system integration.
Academic Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory
The Academic Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Co-Lab serves as the focal point for academia in promoting high quality, reusable content for distributed learning. This Co-Lab is the ADL academic link to test, evaluate and demonstrate ADL-compliant tools and next generation technologies to enhance teaching and learning. It also serves as an academic demonstration site for ADL tools and content, including those developed by the federal government, academia, and industry.
Workforce Advanced Distributed Learning Co-Laboratory
The Workforce Co-Lab is the hub of ADL implementation in industry. It serves as the facilitator of the development and integration of ADL technologies in industry to enhance the learning and training of the workforce of the future. The Workforce Co-Lab is the mechanism that promotes adoption of ADL technologies industry through education, technical training, and accessibility to solutions that will contribute to the creation of the advanced digital knowledge environment in workforce settings.
United Kingdom Advanced Distributed Learning Partnership Laboratory
The United Kingdom (U.K.) ADL Partnership Lab is a collaboration with the Learning Lab at the University of Wolverhampton in Telford, England. This Partnership Lab promotes the development and acceptance of global e-learning standards. The U.S. and U.K. collaborate on the production of sharable content and joint research projects.
Canada Advanced Distributed Learning Partnership Laboratory
Established under the auspices of the DLN initiative, the Canada ADL partnership Lab's role is to support ADL implementation with the DND. As such, the Canada ADL Partnership Lab's principal services include Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) implementation consulting, product evaluation, conformance testing, and research and development. The Canada ADL Partnership Lab provides a collaborative environment for training organizations from the DND to share resources and experiences in implementing innovative e-learning solutions. Individual Training and Education Managers, in-house developers and their consultants can all have access to expert advice and resources to assist them in implementing SCORM conformant content that is truly reusable, interoperable, durable and accessible. The flexible environment and expertise provided by the Canada ADL Partnership Lab enables the development and demonstration of implementation best practices, and addresses the e-learning needs of the department.
Advanced Distributed Learning Technical Center
Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Technology Center located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, collaborates with all the ADL Co-Labs to develop and validate ADL concepts, technologies and utilities. Through the direction of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) operates the ADL Technology Center as part of their support for the ADL Initiative. |
